As Bedford Town entertained new boys Truro City, tonight's opponents, Rugby began the new campaign with a 5-1 away defeat to Swindon Supermarine.

Despite the result at Meadow Lane, the Eagle's gave a good account of themselves on Saturday against a Truro side that will comfortably make the step up in this league.

Rugby had a productive pre-season and will be hoping to build on ‘five successive seasons in the Zamaretto League Premier Division.' Rugby has consistently finished between 15th and 17th position in the league.

The Eagles lost 3-0 last season at Butlin road but did manage a 2-0 win at Meadow Lane.

Lee Howarth has a new midfielder on loan from Rushden & Diamonds, Jamie McGuiness began his career as a trainee at Luton Town and has gained experience while on loan at Aldershot.

Bedford are back in action this Saturday, August 22 when they travel to Stourbridge. Kick off is at 3pm. The Eagles then host Leamington on Tuesday, August 25.
