Chairmans Notes
![]() Good afternoon and welcome to The Eyrie for our first league match of the 2011/12 campaign against newcomers to the Premier Division, Frome Town. Our visitors won the pay-offs in Division One South & West last season to gain promotion, having conceded only 31 goals in 40 league outings, so I'm sure they will be a stern test for us today. Whatever the result though, I hope their players, officials and supporters enjoy their visit to Bedfordshire and we look forward to the return fixture in Somerset on 14 April. We've had a good pre-season with some excellent results and performances along the way but at the end of the day, friendlies count for nothing. It's down to business today so let's hope the lads can maintain the high standards they've already set themselves and deliver a league win in the opening match of a season for the first time in many a year. The management team of Ady Hall, Steve Rigby and Steve Jackman deserve a lot of credit for the hard work and commitment they've put in since the end of last season. Some people may think that the summer represents a lull in activity but nothing could be further from the truth. Ady, Riggers and Jacko have been extremely busy since the beginning of May identifying potential signings and talking to lots of players. I've never seen such a thorough and methodical approach to building a new squad in all my 11 years as Chairman and the blend of old and new faces with a mixture of experience and young talent is exciting to see. There's a real buzz around the place and long may it continue. This level of professionalism has been supplemented by the introduction of our very own Sports Psychologist, Heidi Rich. Heidi is helping us out as part of her Masters Degree course and her presence in and around the ground on training nights and matchdays has added a different dimension and a refreshing change. The players certainly seem to have responded very positively to her involvement. I am also pleased to announce that our new floodlight installation, completed with 50% funding from the Football Foundation, has substantially increased the overall average lux level and brought the stadium facilities up to a Category B grading for Conference North and South. In fact, on switch-on the floodlighting achieved national Conference standards, which demonstrates we are investing for the future. Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Supporters' Club working party who came down in June to undertake a myriad of repairs and maintenance to the stadium including painting, re-slabbing, hatching and re-wiring of the PA system. There are too many individuals to mention but you know who you are and your continued support and assistance is invaluable to the success of the Club. Enjoy today's game and have a safe journey home.
